Smith Tour

1. The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is a leading voice for contemporary art and culture and provides a national platform for the art and artists of our time.  We seek to share the transformative power of modern and contemporary art with audiences at all levels of awareness and understanding by creating meaningful, personal experiences in which art, artists, audiences and ideas converge. We enhance public understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through acquisition, exhibitions, education and public programs, conservation, and research.2. Barbara Krugers Belief+ Doubt Exhibit is meant to stop the viewer in its tracks, and make you think. Her exhibit is a mix of large bold words that are either equations or phrases and often thought provoking and possibly controversial. The Jenny C. Jones exhibit is actually a Directorship specifically chosen by the museum director and set up in its personal space. The purpose of this is for people to walk in and listen rather than look. The exhibition takes music sources featuring African American artists in the fields of jazz and other genres as you walk through you will hear different notes, sounds and words being reflected off of the sound artwork she has developed.3. The Hirshorn Museum at first glance is a very weird museum and to some even disturbing. That’s the point though to make you realize that it is not what appears on the outside. Once a person stops to look at the artwork and see how original it is, you understand that the Hirshorn is a museum for free thinkers who don’t like to br constrained to just one aspect of thought. The museum not only shows this in the artwork it presents, but also the artists they bring in such as the loved and also despised Ai Wei Wei.
